SCENE REPORT : Sleepers Club Release “Mirror Mirror” ahead of nothing feels right album.

Atlanta sleazepop band Sleepers Club releases “Mirror Mirror,” the latest single off their forthcoming album Nothing Feels Right, set to release in November.
Sleepers Club is a collaboration between Sydney Ward, previously the voice behind Sydney Eloise and the Palms, and producer Damon Moon (Bathe Alone and Lunar Vacation).
The pair go back over a decade with the project itself tracing back to a studio date in 2020 that was ultimately hijacked by the pandemic. After two months of recording the duo amassed a treasure trove of new songs but ultimately the sessions were completed and then quietly shelved. Much of the recordings sat untouched for years, resurfacing only recently as Ward and Moon found themselves circling the same unsettled feeling that guided them during the creation of the tracks.
What's followed has been a slow rollout from a backlog of melodic pop songs with dreamy guitars and nods to synthy ambient new wave that are reminiscent of bands like Dolly Mixture and Misery.
“Mirror Mirror” dips into that same well. Ward wrote it during a period of reflection, as a longtime friend group began drifting apart.
“It’s my realization of the ending of some version of myself and the timeline we were all on together. It’s my own voice speaking to me,” Ward says. “The duality of the person I was busy becoming, talking to the person I was being perceived as. I was growing, and trying to acknowledge whatever part I played in it.”
Mirror Mirror was one of the last tracks written during the same 2020 recording session.
“This was one of the later songs I wrote,” she says. “It always felt like an important one, so we really held on to this one for a while, but as we get closer to closing the chapter on these songs, it feels like I’ve gotta send this one off into the waves.”
